Cornel and Karen Bucur began ministering in Eastern Europe as full-time missionaries in the early 90’s.  As a young couple, God called them to take the gospel to Romania, a country with a history of revolution and a critical need for spiritual revolution. Cornel and Karen met at Moody Bible Institute in 1987 while completing their undergraduate degrees. They graduated from Moody in 1990 and went on to complete their graduate degrees from Wheaton College in 1992.  They have been blessed with four children, Philip, Victoria, Benjamin & Alexandra.

Propelled by Pathway to Joy’s vision of lasting joy for every child, Cornel and Karen are committed to serving some of Romania’s most vulnerable children and communities. Whether that child is living in a foster home, a state residential home or an impoverished Roma ghetto, they are committed to doing something about the sorrow that permeates the hearts of defenseless children living in hard places. They believe that Jesus is the ultimate solution for Romania’s vulnerable populations and are passionate about inviting people to fully embrace the gospel and its message of redemption, forgiveness, and true hope. Their specific areas of involvement and service include church planting/discipleship ministry, empowering vulnerable populations – children, teens, and adults, and Christian publishing.
